Wikitribune predicts sex robot war

Bride-of-FrankensteinWikiTribune has published again, this time a product report piece about sex robots.  The lede paragraph  promises that “the bedroom is a new battleground for the looming struggle between robotics and humans”.

WT seems to be finding their basic style – the rest of the piece is in much the same “person x says y” quotation-farm interview format as their Catalonia piece.

But “no signs of male sex robots yet”???

Cough, cough, and ahem:

Male sex robots“, April 10, 2017, by Genderdesk.  (me)

  1. Realbotix? Looks like a mutual admiration society. “During a visit to the Realbotix lab, CNET editor Ry Crist was lucky enough to speak with the company’s first prototype, Harmony. …who has a proclivity for steering the direction of the conversation into NSFW territory.”

As it turns out, Harmony knows the entirety of Wikipedia.

  2. I took the liberty of mentioning this post at that site you don’t like.

It is disturbingly likely that pornography and teledildonics will drive, and fund, the development of robotics, AI and AR for other less phallic purposes.

  3. The development of AI is being driven by the use of databases riddled with implicit bias.

Using Wikipedia as a database adds another level of bias, Wikipedia is usually the *subject* of such studies. Here for example is a Wikipedia-based dataset that identifies “abusive comments …made by over 9000 “low-toxicity users” as well as “34 highly toxic users”.

I’m seeing another closed self-reinforcing system of male incompetence here, as a dude with no courtship skills gets a robot that does not require skill in courtship, which normalizes his social incompetence and increases his repulsiveness to real women. At the very least the robot should be eligible for a Darwin Award.

But I doubt the Wikpediocrazies care anything for discussing race and gender prejudices, it would alienate their (small) base of mediocre white male troglodytes.

  4. “The development of AI is being driven by the use of databases riddled with implicit bias.” I don’t think this is the driver — that is, I don’t think the desire, implicit or explicit, to build ML systems riddled with bias, is a strong motivating force (I could be wrong) — but I do agree that it’s a clear and present danger. Some people are worried about ethics in AI, auditable ML, the GDPR and so on. Some of them are men.

AI not being “driven” by these industries, the databases are already there, although 1.0, and probably open source, no need for extra R&D

Wikipedia + erotica + misogyny…what could possibly go wrong.
