Happiness and living Danishly

Another digression, but who doesn’t want to be happy?  Denmark is the happiest country in the world and you too can learn its secrets.  You can buy this lady’s book or you can listen to her talk on Youtube for free.

So one of these thing is hygge, which is coziness or hominess.  It involves burning a lot of candles and stuff like food rituals. Since Denmark is dark and cold from October to March, this has a lot to do with the weather.

Another of these things is arbejdsglaede, or happiness at work. Danes focus on lifelong education, short work hours, and in July, the whole country goes on vacation, so they don’t have to worry about what might happen in the office if they are away.

Designer lamps.  I am not kidding, according to the video, every Danish home has something called a PH 5. This is a very expensive lamp with indirect light designed by Poul Henningsen.

The PH 5 consists of three reflecting shades that illuminate the lamp downward and laterally, creating 100% glare-free light. The PH5 gets its name from the diameter of the top shade, which is 5 dm or 50 cm.

It supposedly hangs over the table in every Danish home and makes every one look good. The price is around a thousand dollars, but they don’t even care, because happiness.

But find out from the lady directly,  I have been thinking about this video for more than a week now, and finally knew I had to go back and find it again to share it with my devoted fans.  There is no one with a greater need for happiness.
