Triggered by Kobe

Meanwhile back on Glindr:

with kobe Bryant’s death today, I dread the incoming canonization of a rapist

Yeah I was proper shocked when I read it but he was a rapist and you’re right, he’ll be revered as a saint.

hes a rapist?

The nurse] stated that there were several lacerations to the victim’s posterior fourchette or vaginal area, and two of those lacerations were approximately one centimeter in length,” testified Det. Winters. “And there were many, I believe, 2 millimeter lacerations. Too many to count… [The nurse] stated that the injuries were consistent with penetrating genital trauma. That it’s not consistent with consensual sex.

Detective Winters further stated that the nurse told him the vaginal injuries had most likely occurred within “24 hours,” and that the accuser had “a small bruise on her left jaw line.” Also, that examiners had found “blood excretions” on Bryant’s T-shirt “to about the waistline.” The blood, testified Det. Winters, had ‘the same DNA profile as the victim in this case.‘”

from his statement : Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.”

ie, i raped her

When asked about bruises on the accuser’s neck, Bryant admitted to “strangling” her during the encounter, stating that he held her “from the back” “around her neck”, that strangling during sex was his “thing” and that he had a pattern of strangling a different sex partner (not his wife) during their recurring sexual encounters. When asked how hard he was holding onto her neck, Bryant stated, ‘My hands are strong. I don’t know.’

What is this about strangling women during sex?  I am reading about this more and more.

About Kobe’s “half-apology”: https://www.thenation.com/article/society/wrestling-in-with-kobe-bryants-forgotten-apology/ https://web.archive.org/web/20200128201604/http://www.thenation.com/article/society/wrestling-in-with-kobe-bryants-forgotten-apology/ A lot of people are leaving this link in the WaPo obit.

While reading something else on Reddit, I stumbled across a transcript of the entire police interview, the link now buried under more than a thousand comments. He thinks it will cost him a million bucks to make it go away.

One Colorado reporter talks about the social and racial divides between the money on the hill and the lack of money in the valley:

Painful memories of Kobe Bryant linger in Vail Valley: http://www.realvail.com/painful-memories-of-kobe-bryant-linger-in-vail-valley/a7488/

But apparently only men can write about it; when Washington Post reporter Felicia Sonmez tweets a link to an old article about the trial, she gets suspended by WaPo, not to mention the death threats, and people publishing her address.

Since we’re already at Glindr, and talking about the difference between what rapists can get away with, as opposed to child rapists (so why is it called “jailbait”?) here is a discussion of

“‘Pederastic Intimacy’: University Professor Lays Academic Ground Work for Legalization of Child Rape”: These professors are encouraging abuse.”

And this article on “The legacy of the Kobe Bryant rape case” shows how to carry out effective victim blaming, using the research of professor Renae Franiuk (red link) at Aurora University.

Franiuk has studied rape myths, which are “generalized and widely held beliefs about sexual assault that serve to trivialize the sexual assault or suggest that a sexual assault did not actually occur.”  For example, using the word “accuser” instead of “alleged victim” has been proven to elicit sympathy with the accused.

Here is a handy chart, specific to the Kobe case:

Last word goes to Mrs. Ovary of – where else- Manchester.

WaPo has now cleared and reinstated their reporter, but not before the Beeb wrote a scathing report, that includes the information that the [alleged] rape survivor declined to testify against Kobe after she received death threats when her name was [inadvertently] published. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51279486
