Colin Jost set at WH correspondents’ dinner

For our friends on the other side of the pond, the White House correspondents’ dinner is an annual event hosted by the association of journalists that covers the White House, usually featuring comedians and a roast of the President. It has been held since 1921, except for the Trump presidency, because Trump.  Fun fact, women were banned from the dinner until 1961, when John F. Kennedy boycotted the dinner, at the urging of Helen Thomas, who was a member of the association, unless women were allowed to attend

Colin Jost is a writer and comedian on Saturday Night Live. The “Doug” and “second gentleman” jokes refer to VP Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff, and the fact that Jost is married to celebrity Scarlett Johansson.

Biden also did some jokes: https://deadline.com/2024/04/joe-biden-2024-correspondents-dinner-remarks-1235897704/ There is a tape of the whole event somewhere on YouTube.

For some reason, the White House correspondents’ dinner does not get its own article, and thus is impossible to google. It is nestled into a paragraph for the associated journalist group that raises money for scholarships.
